For Artists: Do You Leap in The Dark?

Xmas 2012 005

My quote today is from Agnes De Mille:

“Living is a form of not being sure, not knowing what next or how.  The moment you know how, you begin to die a little. The artist never entirely knows.  We guess.  We may be wrong, but we take leap after leap in the dark.”

You may not realize it but every sketch you start, every mark you make, every photo you take, every word you write, every note you play is indeed a leap in the dark.  It is a dive into the ocean of pure potentiality or possibility.  Anything could happen and usually does.  Are you happy with ambiguity?. If you are an artist, the answer is a resounding “yes!”.  After all, who else would be crazy enough to live so tentatively.

Are you leaping?  How far and how high, that is the question.
